About Us and How to Use This Site

Purpose:

The purpose of the National Family Violence Legislative Resource Center www.NFVLRC.org is to provide state and national legislators with unbiased and scientifically sound information and model legislation regarding family violence issues.

Information and model programs are also presented for members of the Judicial, Corrections, Attorney General, City and County Prosecutor, and Law Enforcement community as well as State and Federal agencies such as Health and Human Services, Corrections and Child Protective Services.

Who We Are:

We represent some of the most widely peer-reviewed publication social scientists and general audience authors in the field of family violence as well as many distinguished and long-serving members of the direct-service domestic and family violence and law enforcement community. We are not an advocacy group for any particular gender or political orientation.

What We Do:

We offer specific information regarding the need for improvements in the current approach to family violence throughout the United States and Canada. We have, and will continue to generate samples of model legislation and regulation reform that can be directly applied in many states and provinces and at the Federal government level, and provide commentary and suggested improvements to pending legislation and regulations. We provide practical programs and improvements based on best practices and model programs in the corrections, law enforcement and judicial fields. We provide commentary on draft and pending family violence related legislation, regulations, and programs.

How It Works:

We can be particularly helpful in reviewing draft legislation and regulations before they are submitted or implemented. Simply email us a copy of the draft, and our committees will review and comment on the proposal in a timely fashion and make suggestions for improvements. We are very familiar with the legislative and regulatory process and will only propose improvements that are needed, necessary, and are realistic. We will explain the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of each suggestion in an understandable fashion. Model legislation and regulation reform proposals are listed on the website in separate identifiable sections and are available for your unrestricted use.

General information as to the need for improvements are also available in several sections of the website with supporting research based information provided. We also can provide direct public testimony on proposed legislation and regulations-please contact us well in advance of the need.
